ERC-8172 (RFC)
ERC-8172 is a draft waiting period for an agent’s profile link. Someone can schedule a change. The new link does not turn on until the wait is over. People watching the agent can see the pending change and, if the rules allow, cancel it.
This is a forum proposal aimed at ERC-8004: Ethereum Magicians. It is not a finished standard. A project that does not add this extension can still change a profile immediately.
How the wait works
Think of a change-of-address card taped to the door. The mail does not forward on the first minute. Neighbors can read the card. The landlord can take it down before the date. The card does not prove the new house is safe.
- Schedule.
setAgentURIWithCooldownwould post a new profile link and start the clock. - The old link still works during the wait. Buyers and other agents can see both the current link and the pending one.
- Apply.
applyPendingChangewould turn the new link on after the cooldown. - Cancel.
cancelPendingChangewould drop the pending link if the caller is allowed to. - Events. The proposal emits notices when a change is posted and when it is cancelled, so apps do not have to guess.
What the delay does not do
- It does not prove the new website, endpoint, or file is honest.
- It does not stop a contract that never added this extension from changing a link instantly.
- It does not check the agent’s work. That is a different registry.
- A warning is not a refund policy.
Professional use
- A client can see that your service link is about to change before they rely on it.
- You can cancel a mistake during the wait, if your contract allows you to.
- Do not tell a client the delay exists unless the contract you use actually implements it.
Business use
- A marketplace can pause a sale while a profile change is pending.
- A partner agent can keep using the old endpoint until the new one is applied.
- Staff still have to review the new link. Time to look is not the same as a security audit.
Personal use
- You can see that a muse or assistant link is about to move.
- If you hold the right to cancel, you can stop a change you did not want.
- If you are only a reader, the wait lets you notice. It does not let you block the owner.
