ERC-8183 (RFC)

ERC-8183 is a job with the money held in the middle. The client funds a budget. The provider submits the work. An evaluator either releases the pay or the money goes back. If the clock runs out, the client can claim a refund.

The spec is a Draft, so the details can change.

How a job works

Think of an envelope of cash held by a clerk. The worker slides the finished page across the desk. A judge says “pay” or “give it back.” The clerk does not decide whether the page is beautiful. The judge does, and in this spec that decision is final.

  1. Open. createJob makes the job. It is not funded yet. The client can still reject it in this state.
  2. Funded. fund locks the budget in the contract. The provider can see that the money is there before they finish the work.
  3. Submitted. The provider calls submit with the deliverable.
  4. Completed. The evaluator calls complete. The provider is paid. This state is final.
  5. Rejected or expired. reject sends the money back. If the job expires, claimRefund sends it back. Those endings are final. The spec does not add an appeal.

The evaluator can be the client or another contract. After the work is submitted, that evaluator can complete or reject. The registry does not check the work itself.
